Rapid City, a city in Pennington County, is located in South Dakota, United States. It is the second largest city in South Dakota and is popularly known as the ‘Gateway City’ to the renowned Black Hills. The city has a total population of around 62,100 inhabitants.
The city has a varied climate, characterised by four seasons; summer, spring, autumn and winter. The city experiences long, hot summers and dry winters.
Founded in 1876 by a group of miners, the city was established as the Gateway City to the Black Hills. The city was soon recognised as an important trade centre, which led to a remarkable increase in the city’s tourism.
