Tourist Guide Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls, located along the Big Sioux River, is the seat of Minnehaha County in South Dakota, USA. With an area of 145.9 sq km and a population of around 150,000, it is the largest city in the state.
Sioux Falls has a humid temperate climate. Summers are hot with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C. Winters are very cold and dry with temperatures varying from –3°C to –15°C.
Incorporated in 1876, Sioux Falls used to be a military reservation known as Fort Dakota established in 1865 to protect settlers from Native American raids. Predominantly an agricultural community, the city gradually transformed into an economy centred on health care, finances and retail.
The cascading waterfalls of the Big Sioux River flow over sparkling pink quartzite stones which add to its beauty. Located in the Great Plains, the landscape of the city is made up of many parks and recreation spots.Explore map
