A major attraction of Spokane is the Riverfront Park (which hosted the 1974 World Fair) boasting an IMAX Theatre, the twentieth century Looff Carousel and the Northern Railway Clock Tower (one of the biggest in the Northwest) which has come to be a symbol of the city.
Lake Coeur D’Alene, Priest Lake and Lake Pend Oreille are beautiful places to visit in the summertime and engage in water sports and rafting. Mount Spokane offers cross-country skiing and dog sledding during winter months.
A classical European Renaissance garden and a Nishinomiya Japanese Garden can be found at the Manito Park and Botanical Gardens on the city’s South Hill.
Popular events in Spokane include the Lilac Bloomsday Run (held on the first Sunday of May) which is the largest timed road race in the world. Food-lovers will enjoy the Pig-Out in the Park summer festival which is traditionally held during Labour Day weekend (early September).
