The Old Hickory Lake extends 97.3 miles upstream to Cordell Hull Lock and Dam close to Carthage. In the 1950s, when the Old Hickory Lock and Dam was built across the Cumberland River, this lake was formed. This project was completed in December 1957. Currently, the lake, lock and the dam is maintained by the United States, Army Corps of Engineers. Here, there are several recreational activities like water skiing, picnicking, hiking, camping, boating and fishing.
