The Memphis city is located in the southwest corner of the state of Tennessee. The city is the county seat of Shelby County. Memphis is located on the banks of the Mississippi River.
The mouth of River Wolf lies in the north of the city. The city was founded in 1819 and was incorporated in 1826. The metropolitan area of Memphis is the 2nd largest in Tennessee. The population, as per the 2006 census, was 670, 902 residents. The metropolitan area comprises of around 1, 260, 581 residents.
As similar to the other cities in Tennessee, Memphis experiences a subtropical humid climate. The city possesses four different seasons. July is the month, when highest level of humidity is experienced. Thunderstorms are frequent in summer afternoons. Early autumn is a pleasant time when the weather is mild and dry. Winters, can be mild or chilly depending on the month. Snowfall is occasional in winters.
