What was founded by 10 parishioners in 1832 has since blossomed into Memphis’s vibrant Calvary Episcopal Church.  Located at 102 North Second Street, this church is now home to 1200 members who have found a welcoming home to practice their Episcopal faith.

The ministry is particularly popular as a religious resource for young adults with its community of youth ministers. Calvary has over 175 years of experience of integrating the Episcopal faith into the downtown Memphis community; its impact is seen through such efforts as the Calvary Street Ministry, Samaritan Counseling Center, Calvary Place Childcare Center and Calvary and the Arts Concert series.

A group of parishioners developed a fitting anagram to describe the church community—“FAITH”—which stands for Forgiveness, Action, Inquiry, Togetherness and Hallelujah. Words like these give an idea of the type of community the Calvary Episcopal Church is dedicated to fostering. The church welcomes nonmembers and people of all faiths within its doors.
