Dubbed the “New Bridge” by locals, the Hernando de Soto Bridge carries six lanes of Interstate 40 traffic across the Mississippi River. The vast bridge connects West Memphis, Arkansas to Memphis, Tennessee with an aesthetic through arch bridge that spans an impressive 19, 535 feet in length. The intricate double arch creates a beautiful skyline that is illuminated at night as a beautiful and iconic part of the city.

The bridge is named after a 16th century Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto who traveled this particular stretch of the Mississippi River and died just south of Memphis. His legacy lives on in a colossal steel bridge that hovers over the glistening Mississippi River. The bridge snagged the quirky Guinness World Record as the largest free-standing letter of the alphabet in the world, an enormous “M” shape. This bridge doesn’t just get locals and visitors from place to place, but its double arch makes for quite the site.
