A nearly unfathomable 15,000 years of history are on display at the Tennessee State Museum, one of the largest museums in the country.

Located at 505 Deaderick Street in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, this museum provides an impressive look into centuries of history, culture, and art, chronciling as far back as prehistoric times.  The museum features exhibits about exploreers, pioneers, the Civil War, and even a stunning Egyptian mummy that is nearly 3,500 years old. As Nashville is a city rich with Civil War history, the Civil War exhibits are particularly remarkable, featuring uniforms, battle flags and weaponry that are among the finest artifacts in the country. This collections of relics includes General Patrick Cleburne's kepi, the uniform worn by General John Adams, a Civil War cannon made at Nashville's Brennan ironworks, a life-size diorama of a camp scene, and portraits of George H. Thomas, Bushrod Johnson, Cleburne, Andrew Johnson and other Civil War figures.

For those who desire a more detailed look into the displays and their contextual implications in history, the museum staff offers special tours and lessons to enlighten visitors. Because the many displays are arranged throughout a collosal venue, a trip to the Tennessee State Museum could occupy the better part of your day, and is a great way to spend time on a vacation to Nashville or even just a rainy day. One of the best part about the museum is that there is free admission, so families can experience a wealth of cultural and historical knowledge about Tennessee and America free of charge.
