In 1973, the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge was conceived as a Girl Scout Project. On 11th march 1973, it was formally opened in the premises of the library of the former Jefferson Junior High School. At this point of time, the area of the museum was 2000 square feet. In January 1974, it was moved to the former Highland View Elementary School. Currently, the area of the museum is 54,000 square feet.
