The city of Abilene is a part of both Taylor and Jones Counties.
However, Abilene is the county seat of the Taylor County. It is an important city in the State of Texas in the United States.
The population of the city area is around 115,930 residents. However, if the metropolitan area is considered, the population goes up to 158,063 residents.
Abilene serves as the base of the Dyess Air Force. Forth Worth city is located about 150 miles on the eastern side of Abilene city.
The city is divided into two parts, south and north, by the central railroad.
The historic downtown region lies on the northern side of the railroad. When the railroad was established, the city was termed the 'Future Great City of West Texas'.
Abilene experiences hot summers and cold winters. July is the warmest month of the year with January being the coldest month. Rainfall is generally evenly distributed during the year, with June being the wettest month.
