The University of Texas is a public research university which is situated in Austin in Texas. It is also the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. It was named as one of the original eight Public Ivy institutions. Founded in 1883, the university has had the fifth largest single campus enrollment in the nation as of fall of 2007, having more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students and with 16,500 faculty and staff members. Its president is William C Powers, Jr.
