Fort Worth serves as the county seat of Tarrant County in Texas, USA. Located in the rolling hills of the Great Plains of north-central Texas, the city covers an area of 774.1 sq km and has a population of around 650,000.
Fort Worth has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are long and hot, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 36°C. Winters are short and mild, with temperatures varying from –1°C to 13°C. Due to its location in the ‘tornado alley’, the weather can get extreme.
Formerly known as ‘Hell’s Half Acre’ for its vices, the city was transformed by the railroad into a premier livestock centre. Known as ‘Cowtown’ for its wild, rural heritage, the city proudly displays its history in many sites.
