Tourist Guide Galveston
Located on the Gulf Coast, the city of Galveston is situated on Galveston Island in Texas, USA. Linked to the mainland by a causeway, the city covers an area of 539.6 sq km and has a population of around 58,000.
Galveston has a maritime climate. Summers are warm with an average temperature of 31°C. Winters are mild with an average temperature of 9°C.
Due to its location on the barrier island, the city has become an important port with a thriving fishing industry. After the city was devastated by a hurricane in 1900, a sea wall was built to protect it from future disasters. The Texas Seaport Museum chronicles the growth of the island.
Galveston is known for its resorts, Victorian architecture and as the home of the first golf course. The Grand 1894 Opera House hosts a number of cultural performances; it is a favoured stop for tourists. Other attractions include the coastline and the downtown area of Strand.Explore map
