Harlingen city is situated in Cameron County in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. It is to the south of Texas in United States. Covering more than 34 square miles, it is the second largest city in this county. It is the principal city of the Brownsville - Harlingen Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city got incorporated in 1910.

In 1910, the population was 1,126. In 1920, the population was 1,126. As of 2000, the population was 57,564. As of 2009, it reached a population of 64, 221 people.

According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of 34.3 square miles, out of which 34.1 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water.
