Kilgore city is situated in Gregg and Rusk Counties in the eastern side of Texas. It was founded in 1872 due to the completion of the International Great Northern Railroad.
By 1885, the population had reached 250 and in 1914, it was 700 people. In 1920, it showed an estimation of 1,000 residents. The population of the city as per the 2000 census was 11,301, of which the density was 734.3 people per square mile.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.0 square kilometers, out of which, 39.9 square kilometers is land and 0.19 percent is water.
Kilgore gets 46 inches of rainfall and one inches of snowfall each year. Further, it experiences 215 sunny days per year. July month is high with 95 degrees and January is low with 36 degrees. The number of days with measurable precipitation is 83 days.
It is home of Kilgore College and the childhood house of popular classical pianist, Van Cliburn.
