Killeen is considered the Principal City of the metropolitan statistical area of Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood.
The Ford Hood cantonment is situated next to Killeen. Killen's economy is highly dependant on the soldiers and post at Ford Hood.
As per the 2000 census, the city was home to more than 86,911 residents.
The city is spread over an area of 35.4 sq. miles. The US Highway 190 runs through it.
The city is located in the central part of Texas State.
As a result, it experiences a subtropical humid climate. Summers are hot and humid; while the winters are mild. Sometimes the winters can get chilly.
