Built in 1908-09 to serve as a jail the Caldwell County museum is a rare example of the Norman castellated style of architecture. The five storey brick building encompasses the artifacts of the Lockhart region. It contains nine main cells divided into smaller compartments. It is located at 315E Market Street just east of downtown Lockhart.
The original building was just a log cabin in 1855 and served as a city jail before it was torn down to make way for the brick castle building housing the museum.
