Marfa city is the county seat of Presidio County located in the high desert of West Texas. Founded in early 1880s, it grew through 1920s period.
At present, this city is a tourist destination and one of its attractions includes the Marfa lights. It is named after Marfa Strogoff, a character in the Jules Verne novel, Michael Strogoff.
