McAllen has dry, hot weather for most parts of the year. The temperature in summer ranges from 24°C to 37°C. Winters are cold, with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 19°C. The weather can get extreme with long heat spells, storms and tornadoes.
The town of McAllen began to develop after the arrival of John McAllen. Today, it has a population of around 125,000.
The city’s location on the USA-Mexico border has led to the unique blending of American and Mexican cultures, as is evident in the cultural activities and structures of the city. Quinta Mazatlan, home to the World Birding Center is one such landmark.
McAllen’s warm climate and lush terrain makes it a popular golf destination. It is also a favourite spot for bird watching, as it falls on the migratory route.
