Tourist Guide Needville

A city in the Fort Bend County in Texas, USA, Needville was founded in 1891 by August Schendel, a German immigrant from the Washington county. Originally named as Schendelville, the city was named Needville after the post office amended the name selected by Schendel from Needmore which is already in existence.

It is located on the State Highway 36 in Fort Bend County, southwest of Houston Texas. Spread over 1.7 square miles of area Needville has a population of 2,609 people as per the 2000 US Census. The early settlers in the area were mostly of the German and Czech origin.

The economy of the city relied mainly on the farming and ranching activities for its revenue. During the 1920-30s the discovery of oil, natural gas and sulfur in the region helped the city prosper.Needville plays host to many cultural and local events like the Needville Harvest festival held every October and the Upper Golf Course Outdoor Expo featuring hunting and fishing equipment.
