Tourist Guide Orange
The city of Orange located in the Orange County of Texas USA came into existence in 1836 as a deep water port, when Texas won its independence from Mexico. Home to the Atakapas Indians and later the French and the Spanish traders the area was transformed into an industrial city by taking advantage of the natural supply of fur in the region and cheap labor. With the dredging of the harbor in 1914 to accommodate large ships, Orange has become one of the thriving industrial areas with petrochemical, rubber, paper and other important industries.
Orange is located in the west bank of the Sabine River and has a population of 18,643 people as per the 200 US census estimates. Spread over 20.8 square mile area, the city was hit by Hurricane Rita in 2005 and was greatly damaged.
Orange has a host of cultural and recreational attractions like the Stark museum of art and the Shangri La botanical gardens.
