The county seat of Sutton County in Texas, Sonora with its population of 2924 as per the 2000 US Census is one of the leading trap cities in West Texas. Spread over 2.0 square miles of land Sonora lies in the western portions of the Texas Hill Country. The landscape contains the flora and the fauna of the hill country as well as the desert region.
Due to its proximity to the dessert and the steppes nearby, the sub tropical, sub humid climate of Sonora is marked by long periods of drought. During the spring and the fall months there are thunderstorm and heavy rainfall and the summers in Sonora are characterized by its long and hot days.
The city offers a nice selection of the city parks and public swimming pools. Besides that there nature parks offering wide trails for a variety of outdoor activities and a glimpse into the Native American culture in Sonora.
