Tourist Guide Escalante

Escalante is situated in Garfield County in Utah, USA. Located along the Escalante River, the town covers an area of 7.6 sq km and has a population of around 850.

Escalante has an arid, temperate climate. Summer temperatures range from 10°C to 32°C, while winter temperatures range from –9°C to 4°C. The best times to visit Escalante are late spring or early fall when temperatures are moderate.

The small ranching town is named after Father Silvestre Velez de Escalante, the first European explorer of the region. 

Escalante has a wild, uninhabited landscape consisting of the Aquarius Plateau and Boulder Mountain to the north, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument to the south and east. Its landscape and climate are suitable for outdoor recreational activities. Blessed with a beautiful topography, fertile lands and a long growing season, Escalante has been called the ‘Land of the Sleeping Rainbow’.
