The city of Kanab is the county seat of Kane County in Utah, USA. Located near the Arizona border, the city covers an area of 36.4 sq km and has a population of around 5,400.
Kanab has a moderate climate. The average summer temperature is 33°C. Winters are short and mild with an average temperature of –1°C.
Settled in 1864, the city is named for a Paiute word meaning ‘place of the willows’. For many years, Kanab was one of the most isolated cities as it was cut off from the east by the Colorado River. Today, the city is a scenic resort destination with an ‘Old West’ feel. The city is often referred to as ‘Little Hollywood’ because of its film-making history.
The history of the city is on display in the architecture of the old homes and buildings. It is a vacation hub due to its central location between three national parks. It is blessed with a varied topography ranging from sand dunes, volcanic craters, deep canyons, mountains and plains.
