The city of Sandy is situated in Salt Lake County in Utah, USA. It covers an area of 57.9 sq km and has a population of around 90,000.
Incorporated in 1893, Sandy was one of the first settlements by Mormon pioneers. Sandy was named for the sandy soil which lies under much of the city.
Sandy has a semi-arid, temperate climate. Summers are warm and dry with an average temperature of 23°C, while winters have an average temperature of –1°C. Spring and fall are moderate, both having an average temperature of 10°C.
Sandy provides many opportunities for recreational activities. Skiing on the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ is one of the popular activities. The terrain facilitates rock climbing, hiking and golfing amidst the natural beauty of Sandy.
The city also has many cultural attractions. With a variety of shopping avenues, art museums, restaurants and theatres lining the city, Sandy is a great place to spend a vacation with the family.
