Gifford Woods State Park is a favorite for hikers. The park was established in 1931 with 13 acres of land. Today the park has a few old hardwood trees. In the year 1978 seven more acres of land were added to this park. 

The park continued to grow and reached 285 acres in 2003. The main attractions of this park are Pico Alpine Slide, fishing on Kent pond, historic downtown, shopping, dining hiking on the long trail, green mountain national forest and Rutland.
