Tourist Guide Shelburne

Shelburne is situated in the south-western part of Chittenden County in Vermont, USA. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain and on the La Platte River, the small town covers an area of 116.3 sq km.

Shelburne’s climate is characterized by moderately warm summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures range from 14°C to 25°C, while winter is accompanied by snowfall with temperatures ranging from –2°C to –9°C.

Chartered in 1763, the town was named ‘Shelburne’ in honour of William Petty, the second Earl of Shelburne and English prime minister. Today, the largely agricultural community, with a population of around 12,000, has diversified into the manufacturing and service industries.

Shelburne Museum, one of the world’s greatest collections of American folk art, is housed in the town. The Shelburne Farms and the Vermont Teddy Bear Company are also popular tourist attractions.
