The town has seen reduced crime rate over the past years and is considered amongst the topmost safe towns in the US. However, minor crimes like theft and burglary are still prevalent.
Tourists should take care to properly lock their rooms and cars. It is not safe to carry much cash on you. Try to travel in groups and avoid lonely alleyways and short-cuts.
It is generally not safe to travel off-the-road late at night. Even in public, don’t reveal too much information about yourself when you speak with strangers.
Shoplifting has been noted as another notable non-violent criminal act, so always remain alert when you are shopping in the region. Ask to be accompanied by the store personnel when you have to wander into relatively obscure areas.
