South Burlington became a town after breaking from its neighbouring city, Burlington in 1865; it was incorporated in 1971.
South Burlington’s climate is mild as compared to the rest of the state. The temperatures are moderated by Lake Champlain. Summers are warm with an average temperature of 22°C, while winters are cold with an average temperature of –9°C.
South Burlington’s landscape is endowed with lush green farmlands and rolling plains of the Green Mountains. The terrain facilitates hiking, biking and mountain climbing in summer and skiing in winter. In summer, the Vermont National Country Club is packed with avid golfers.
