Lighthouse lies at ‘Jones Point’ in Alexandria. It was previously, i.e. during the times of adventures carried out by Cadwalder Jones, requested to have warned ships regarding traversing river of utterly dangerous sandbars. In the year 1952, Lighthouse Board got Congressional appropriation to buy land; thereby erecting a ‘beacon’ at Jones Point.
