Burke is a census designated place and also an unincorporated community situated in Fairfax County, in Virginia.
Previously, the area of Fairfax County was known as Burke and was named after a 19th century farmer, local politician and also a merchant, Silas Burke. He had built a house on a hill which overlooks the Pohick Creek Valley in 1824 and at present, this house is still standing.
According to the US Census Bureau, Burke has a total area of 11.6 square miles, of which, 11.5 square miles is land and the other 0.1 square miles is water. Further, most of the water in Burke is artificial lakes and ponds.
1980 year saw total population of 33,835 people in Burke and as of 1990; the city had population of 57,734 people. As per the 2000 census, Burke had a total population of 57,737 people.
The climate in Burke is warm during the summer with 70 degrees Fahrenheit and cold in winter with 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
