The independent city of Charlottesville is situated in central Virginia, USA. Located along the Rivanna River at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is spread over an area of 26.6 sq km and has a population of around 50,000.
The climate of the city is influenced by the mountains to the west and the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean to the east. Summers are warm with temperatures varying from 29°C to 18°C. Winters are mild with temperatures ranging from 7°C to –3°C.
Charlottesville has an inviting blend of history, culture, architecture and hospitality. Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s plantation manor, is on the World Heritage List. The Charlottesville Amphitheatre and the John Paul Jones arena have transformed the city into an entertainment hub.
The city’s gorgeous landscape is conducive to outdoor activities. The climate facilitates the cultivation of grapes giving rise to a number of wineries.
