Chincoteague Island is situated in Accomack County in Virginia, USA. Located on the Chincoteague Bay, the island is spread over an area of 24.94 sq km and has a population of around 7,000.
The island enjoys a mild climate due to the moderating effects of the surrounding water. Summer temperatures range from 28°C to 19°C, while winter temperatures range from 7°C to –2°C.
Known for its oyster beds and clam shoals, the island is the gateway to the Assateague Island National Seashore and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. These attractions not only offer natural beauty but are also great recreational spots. Visitors can ride on the famous Chincoteague ponies or simply enjoy the Chincoteague Wild Pony Swim.
