Located on the southeast end of the Virginia peninsula, the independent city of Hampton is situated in the state of Virginia, USA. Located on Chesapeake Bay and the northern shore of Hampton Roads, the city covers an area of 352.8 sq km and has a population of around 150,000.
Hampton is the country’s oldest continuously settled community of English origin. Burned by the Confederates during the American Civil War, and later rebuilt, it is today one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
Hampton enjoys a temperate climate moderated by the Gulf Stream. Summers are warm with temperatures ranging from 29°C to 21°C, while winters are cold with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 0°C.
Besides its ocean-side location, the city is also rich in arts and culture. The Art Market is an outdoor sculpture exhibit that is very popular among the visitors. The Hampton University is also a popular attraction.
