The independent city of Virginia, Newport City, houses a number of attractions for tourists. Mariners' Museum is an extensively famous attraction in the city. This museum is the world's biggest maritime museum.
It was founded in 1932. Currently the museum holds more than 35, 000 maritime artifacts collected from all around the world. Out of all these, one third of the objects consist of paintings. The rest of the two third objects are 3 dimensional figures.
There are 10 galleries present permanently in the museum. James River Bridge Fishing Pier is the longest pier on the Eastern Coast. This place offers a great fishing opportunity to the visitors.
Virginia Living Museum is a combination of a planetarium, botanical garden, aquarium, science museum and a wildlife park. Thus it exhibits all sorts of information about the city of Newport News.
Peninsula SPCA and Petting Zoo houses various farm animals and birds. These include sheep, goats, chickens and ducks. Another section of this zoo holds wild animals like Canadian lynx, jaguars, mountain lions, leopards and many more.
