Tourist Guide Staunton

Staunton is the seat of Augusta County in Virginia, USA. Located in the Shenandoah Valley in between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, the city covers an area of 51 sq km and has a population of around 27,000.

Staunton has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and are generally accompanied by rainstorms with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 15°C. Winters are cold and dry with temperatures varying between 5°C and –6°C.

Known as the ‘Queen City’, Staunton has preserved many buildings of Victorian architecture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Settled by Europeans in 1732, the city became a transportation hub after the arrival of the Virginia Central Railroad.

The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia celebrates the history and culture of the city. The beautiful landscape of the city facilitates many recreational activities like hiking, biking, fishing and mountain climbing.
