Anacortes city is situated in Skagit County in Washington. The name, Anacortes, comes from Anna Curtis, the maiden name of the early settler Amos Bowman’s wife. It was officially incorporated in 1891 and is situated on Fidalgo Island.
In 2000, the population of the city was 14,557. As per the estimation of US Census, the population is 2009 is 16,738.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area if 14.2 square miles out of which, 11.8 miles is land and 2.4 square miles is water.
The weather is milder than other areas of the Pacific Northwest, as the city lies within the Olympic Mountain rain shadow. The City gets 26 inches of rainfall and 5 inches of snowfall each year. There are 158 sunny days in the city with July being the warmest month with 72 degrees and January the coldest month with 35 degrees.
Anacortes is a famous destination for the boaters and for those people who travel on to the San Juan Islands.
