Tourist Guide Black Diamond

Black Diamond City was incorporated in 1959 and was first established as a community in the late 1880s for the coal mining purpose. This city offers a warm and a friendly rural as well as small town atmosphere with some spectacular mountain views. This beautiful city is nestled in the foothills which are within few miles of the beautiful Green River Gorge and Flaming Geyser Park.

This town grew up around the mine in the 1880s and was actually named after Black Diamond Coal Company of California. This company owned and operated the mine. Moreover, the town was home to almost 3,500 people by the early 1900s. And all of this population used to produce coal and transport it to Seattle through the Pacific Coast Coal train. The Black Diamond City is on the verge of growth. As of 2000 census, the population was 3,970.

The town gets 90 inches of rain and 40 inches of snowfall per year. The number of days with measurable precipitation is 195.
