Gig Harbor is the name of both a city on its shore in Pierce County and a bay on Puget Sound. The city is well known as the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula. It is also a popular tourist destination as it is close to many state and city parks. Gig Harbor ranks as 49th of 522 areas in Washington. Gig Harbor was officially incorporated in 1946.
The population of the city was 6,465 as per the 2000 census. In 2009, the population reached to 5.66 percent with 24,578 people.
