With a land area of 184,827 sq km, Washington has approximately 5,894,100 inhabitants. Its capital is Olympia. Washington lies in the Pacific North-west region of the United States of America. The Cascade Range running within the state bisects it into Western Washington and Eastern Washington. Western Washington experiences a marine west-coast climate while the Eastern Washington has a dry, semi-arid climate. Before the Europeans arrived, this region of the US was inhabited by Native Americans, who had a unique culture of their own. Washington became a part of the US in 1889. The predominant religion is Christianity.
