Oak Harbor city is situated on Whidbey Island in Island County. This city was incorporated in 1915 and also the largest incorporated city in Whidbey Island. The city is named for the Garry Oak trees which are found in the city. Its history goes back to early 1850s when three settlers claimed the city. The Irish came in late 1850s too. The Deception Pass Bridge is a National Historic Monument since 1982.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.15 square miles, out of which 9.10 square miles is land and 0.4 square is water.
The population as per the 2000 census was 19,795. As of 2009, the population of Oak Harbor is 22,679. Since 2000, the population growth is 14.74 percent.
