Tourist Guide San Juan Islands

The San Juan Islands are a part of the north-west US state of Washington. It is one of two groups of islands in the San Juan archipelago, the other being sovereign to the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The islands are 144 km north of Seattle and are a popular destination for weekend getaways and relaxing trips with the family. Washington State Ferries ply to Friday Harbour, which is the San Juan County seat and a fully incorporated town in the American island group.

While recorded average temperatures in summertime can cross 20°C, winters usually see temperatures falling below 5°C. Although snowfall is irregular, high winds and sudden chilling are considered normal.

The San Juan County has an estimated 13,000 residents. The island’s sunny weather makes the region an ideal place to make wine.
