Tacoma has various modes of transportation like buses, light rail, commuter rail and ferries. The public bus service is governed by Pierce Transit which runs on 55 bus routes and the buses run on natural gas.
Sound Transit is responsible for providing daily Sounder Commuter rail service. It also provides express bus service from and to Seattle.
Sound Transit has also established the Tacoma Link light rail, which is also maintained by Sound Transit with an electric streetcar that links Tacoma Dome Station with the University of Tacoma, Tacoma’s Theater district and Museum district.
The Washington State Ferries system governs the ferry access to Tahlequah. 7 highways pass through or end in Tacoma, prominent of which are SR 167, SR 509, I-5 and I-705.
Amtrak, which is a nation-wide passenger rail system, provides service to Tacoma.
