Walla Walla is a well-known tourist destination for mountain hiking and many flock here for such adventures. However, one should make sure to get all the essential details before embarking for hiking.

Information is either missing or entirely wrong on some of the websites like that of Umatilla National Forest, and shops in the town don’t sell maps or tourist guidebooks either.

The sign boards on the mountains too are sometimes blank or get faded due to the weather. In such cases, it is easy to get lost and it can prove dangerous to wander aimlessly.

Your best bet is to print out all the information and draw a rough map of the area and keep track of your directions. It also helps to do markings on the path so as to backtrack later on.

Walla Walla
gets dry and hot in summers and there are chances of wildfires. The grasses turn yellow or brownish and all the smoke and dust of the area can hurt your eyes.

Be sure to wrap your eyes appropriately and don’t wear loose clothes when you are in the wilderness.
