Initially, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, but later, the Europeans started exploring the area. In the middle of the nineteenth century the first farm was set up here. Today, the nature parks and unique flora and fauna have made it popular with visitors.
The Olympic Mountain Range blocks the rain-bearing clouds, and thus, this region does not get much rainfall. The region has a temperate climate—the average temperature during summer is 19°C and during winter is 7°C.
