Whidbey Island is famous for its numerous beaches but be careful of high tides when you walk around. Make a point to walk only on outgoing tides and know when the next high tide is going to occur.
While it is tempting to swim in the beach water, it is generally much too cold to swim comfortably. Some water species crawl on the beach with the tides and burrow themselves in the shallow sand.
Keep an eye on what you step onto while walking around the beach. A variety of wildlife can be found in many huge parks on the Island.
Beware of feeding anything to animals as they can get aggressive and snatch away food items sometimes giving rabies bites.
Ferries are the most convenient way to travel to and fro from the Whidbey Island. Their charges are very reasonable and will carry your car along with you. Some even have snack bars situated onboard.
