The North Cascades National Park is Winthrop’s primary attraction. The Park complex is situated over 684000 acres of land and is roughly divided into four adjoined regions.
The park is famous for its diverse wildlife which includes grizzlies, moose, wolves, lynx and wolverines amongst many other rare species.
The park is popular with mountain climbers and backpackers.
Cascade Pass is the one of the well-known destinations and Mount Shuksan is one of the most photographed regions in the country.
Tourists also enjoy various activities on Rose Lake, including boating, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
Shafer Museum is a small but interesting museum located in the city which showcases exciting artifacts and traditional buildings from the town’s early years. Camping can be done around the hillsides of the town. Almost all of the buildings in Winthrop are designed in an American Old West style.
It has the oldest and legally owned saloon in Washington State.
Many festivals like the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival, the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival take place in the town. It also has a live theatre.
