The town of Wasilla is located between the Matanuska Valley and the Susitna Valley on the George Parks Highway in Alaska, USA. Nestled between Lake Lucille and Lake Wasilla and surrounded by the Chugah and Talkeetna Mountains, it covers an area of 32.2 sq km.
It has a population of around 8,500. Tourism and agriculture are the major contributors to the economy.
The weather in Wasilla is typical for the area, with cold winter temperatures ranging from –15°C to –1°C. Summer temperatures vary between 8°C and 25°C.
The town, named after the local Dena’ina Indian Chief Wasilla, was a supply base for gold and coal mining in the region through World War II.
