Tourist Guide Charles Town
Charles Town is located in the north-eastern part of the state of West Virginia in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 2,900 inhabitants is the county seat of Jefferson County.
The region experiences a warm summer with the average maximum temperature in the month of July being 30°C. During winter, the temperature drops down to as low as –6°C; maximum snowfall is in the months of December and January.
Charles Washington, the youngest sibling of former President George Washington, built his house here in the latter half of the eighteenth century. A few years later, he added streets and public buildings in the vacant part of his land. Many of the streets in the town are named after the former President.
The Charles Town Races and Slots is a private gambling facility in the town. It hosts the annual West Virginia Breeders’ Classic; this race of thoroughbreds carries a prize of US$ 500,000.Explore map
