Tourist Guide Davis
Davis is located in the northern part of the state of West Virginia in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 620 inhabitants is located along the Blackwater River.
Summers in Davis are cool with the average temperature at 23°C. Winters are severe; temperatures fall as low as –8°C, and the maximum snowfall is in the month of January.
Owing to its dense forest cover of coniferous trees on the plateau it was nicknamed ‘Canada’. The land was purchased and developed by former US Senator Henry Davis. In the latter part of the eighteenth century, the town became a centre for frenetic lumbering activities which led to its prosperity over the next few decades.
With the decline of the timber industry, the fortunes of the town dwindled. In the last 10 years efforts have been taken towards the beautification of the town in a bid to attract tourism and other economic activities.Explore map
